Dental Hygiene (Cleaning)

A professional cleaning removes bacteria and calculus (hardened plaque) that builds up underneath the gums that you can not reach with your toothbrush. The frequency of your dental hygiene will depend on several factors. Patients who are more susceptible to the accumulation of plaque and calculus, have crowded teeth, or patients with gingivitis or periodontitis (gum disease), will require more frequent visits. Smoking or Diabetes are other factors we take into consideration for determining your hygiene frequency. We evaluate each patient on an individual basis and customize a dental hygiene schedule that will best meet your specific needs. The majority of the patients who visit Luna Dental for their dental hygiene appointments come every 6 months, but many people may benefit from coming in every 3-4 months. Your hygienist will also polish your teeth and provide a fluoride treatment as needed.

Evidence is emerging that shows a link between periodontal disease (gum disease) and heart disease, arthritis, and diabetes. By taking care of your oral health, you are also taking care of your overall health and wellness. Our goal at Luna Dental is to provide you with the tools and information you need to take care of your teeth on a daily basis.
